I generally had no doubt that I would like it, but not this much!
First of all, I really (really) like Kieran Culkin. I only know him from his role in Succession, but I liked him so much there that every new release with him feels like a celebration now.
Secondly, I love stories where the main characters reflect on who they are and who they’d like to be. It feels very relatable, I guess.
And thirdly, the story about brothers who grew up, changed, drifted apart, but still seem to be trying to reconnect—or maybe not—is just great. By the end, you’re not even sure if the status quo has changed, but the journey itself is so heartfelt that you’re satisfied anyway.
The movie is only an hour and a half long, and considering how much the themes and humor resonated with me, I didn’t feel bored for a single second. I’m still thinking about how I probably would’ve liked 20 more minutes, maybe 1-2 more scenes with the brothers—not necessarily serious ones, just something—because it feels like their characters are left a bit unfinished. But it’s better to want more than to think the movie was boring.
And you laugh at Kieran so much—no, seriously, he’s amazing. I’m telling you, go watch it!
